Even Your Less Successful Work Has Been Appreciated By Someone
And all the tips, encouragement, resources, and more
Hi and happy November! It’s Scorpio season, my birthday month, and NaNoWriMo, wooo!
Even Your Less Successful Work Has Been Appreciated By Someone
Sometimes I like to look at my favorite singers’ Spotify accounts and see which songs of theirs are most popular at the moment.
And you know what I rarely see? My favorites.
Like what do you mean, “Would’ve Could’ve Should’ve” isn’t up there on Taylor Swift’s page? And “the grudge” doesn’t make the list for Olivia Rodrigo? And don’t even get me started on the artists that should be more popular than they are due to their creative genius. I feel personally attacked!
Kidding!
…But also kind of serious. At least in the sense that I think this illustrates how just because a piece of your work isn’t doing tremendously well doesn't mean it’s not good, not appreciated, or not helping someone out there.
Yes, there’s value in getting lots of views or lots of money. As freelancers, we kind of have to care about that to some degree, you know?
But there are other positives, too, like feeling good about the work we’re doing, and how it helps people, and trusting that it has a meaningful place in the world.
Would love to hear your thoughts & talk more about this in the comments or over email :)
Updates / Housekeeping
I updated the About page for this newsletter to be more clear about who I am, what a free subscription offers, and what a paid subscription offers!
As mentioned in a previous newsletter, paid subscribers have the opportunity to promote themselves! We’ve got three writers there so far who are offering resources, community, and so much more. Check it out here!

Pitch Calls
GENERAL NOTES FOR THE PITCH CALLS BELOW:
If the story is about a marginalized community, you probably need to be in that community to write the piece.
Mentioning my name in your pitch won’t help, unfortunately!
Who Pays Writers can be a helpful site to get an idea of how much publications pay.
