ChatGPT Makes My #1 Pitching Tip So Much Easier
Plus pitch calls, writing tips, encouragement, and more
Hi & happy February!
ChatGPT Makes My #1 Pitching Tip So Much Easier
I’ve been learning a bit more about SEO since I started taking assignments at SingleCare. Each assignment comes with a content brief.
There’s probably a more formal way to explain these briefs, but to me, it’s basically “here’s what you need to cover in the article and what the format should look like.”
And guess what? ChatGPT will write content briefs for you.
Example: I typed “Create a content brief for an article about how to have success as a freelance writer” into ChatGPT, and it gave me two options. It’s a lot to paste/screenshot, so I’ll link it here (and list it out below).
Medium writers, you may especially want to consider this. Not only because it might increase the success your article has, but also because it cuts down the work! (In other words, you don’t need to think/plan/remember all the important talking points or how to order them. For starters, at least. It also gives headline ideas!)
If you pitch editors, I highly recommend you consider looking at ChatGPT’s content brief of that angle. That’s because one of my biggest pitching tips is to share what you’re going to cover in the article.
In the example above, those pieces include the importance of:
Defining your niche
Building a portfolio
Understanding the market
Setting rates
(And much more)
Aka, ChatGPT gives you valuable information to include in your pitch that editors want to see, all summed up nicely.
Another example: Typing in “Create a content brief for an article about depression” gave info on what to include regarding the:
Title
Objective
Target audience
Key points
SEO keywords
Tone and style
References
And for the key points, it recommended covering:
An introduction
The causes
The symptoms
Misconceptions and stigma
Treatment options
Coping strategies and support
A conclusion
To be clear, I’m not recommending you let ChatGPT write your article for you—just helping you have a jumping off point.
So in this scenario, I might take that content brief, briefly (haha) include those pieces in my pitch, and note I’ll ask experts to share their specific tips and insight.
Hope this helps!

GENERAL NOTES FOR THE PITCH CALLS BELOW:
If the story is about a marginalized community, you probably need to be in that community to write the piece.
Mentioning my name in your pitch won’t help, unfortunately!
