A Bunch of Paid Writing Opportunities, Week #15
Urgent pitch calls, jobs, & some tips on what makes writing "good"
Hello again!
I’ve recently read some really great writing, so I thought I’d give some quick tips based on what I learned in journalism school:
Details! Description! Include these things. Not necessarily long blocks of text about the setting, per se, but things like brand names, specific types of drinks, etc that can characterize a person.
Start with an anecdote! Brownie points for adding emotion and sensations the reader can “feel” as they read.
It’s OK to keep using “said” or “says” when quoting an expert, for example. Trying to get too fancy with word choice there can be distracting.
Answer your readers’ questions (this is one I mentioned in last week’s!). You can start by giving details you’d want to hear, and also ask others to read your work and share what they want to know more about.
Now onto the writing jobs and pitch calls for my paid subscribers :)
(Free subscribers: Want to see that content or make sure it’s worth it before purchasing? Here’s an example of what you’ll get each week. If you can’t afford it, I understand—in which case I’ve got my free monthly newsletter for you with jobs, pitch calls, and more.)
